Potty Training Nightmare

I've been trying to potty train Mia now for quite some time however the past 2 weeks we've been really at it. She's 3 now, she needs to go on the pot. She knows what she's supposed to do and where to do it. Problem is if we put her in panties and clothes, she pees and poops in them 50% of the day. Pull ups are much easier but then she just does the same in them too. Today she was in panties only and pooped through onto my couch!!! She pooped earlier this morning on the toilet. I'm at a loss here. I've been using my cell phone timer having it play the Gummi Bear song which she loves and that works pretty well but then she stil has accidents in between. Suggestions?? My other 3 were not this hard to train!!

I had one of those, too. She was so stubborn!! I finally bribed her with M&M's. One M&M for pee's, two M&M's for poops... It cost me a few $$ in candy but it was cheaper than the clothes, pullups and furniture! :) Good luck and don't give up. You will win eventually.

Ohhhh...this can be so hard! Been there. My oldest was very stubborn. He was more than 3 years old - almost 4, in fact - still pooping in his big boy pants. He would even go behind the couch to "hide" while he did it. I tried everything -- candy, treats, special videos...if ONLY he would poop in the potty! He was totally ready but just stubborn. My mom finally suggested to me to let him clean himself the next time he did it. At first I thought NO WAY -- how mean! But then...I thought...hmmmm. Maybe it's worth a shot. So, I had a talk with him. Told him that I was tired of cleaning his poop everyday, that he's too big for that, the messes were getting too big for me to deal with, and that if he chose to poop in his pants, that was his private choice and he would have to clean himself up. I remember his eyes got big at the thought of that, and then he just smiled and said, "Okay, Mommy." and so I waited. And sure enough, a few hours later he pooped in his pants. He came up to me and I suppose he forgot our little talk because he said, "Mommy, I pooped." and he grabbed my hand to lead me into the bathroom. And I said, "Okay, well...clean yourself up and I'll put out some new underwear for you on your bed. Let me know when you're all clean." and he looked at me as if I'd lost my mind. So I walked him into the bathroom, turned on the water to the bathtub (without the plug in), set him in there (still with his pants on) gave him the soap, and told him to get busy. I then stepped out and spied on him through the door. He stood there for the longest time. After a minute or so I came in and asked why he was still standing there with his pants on? He whined, "I don't want to touch the poo poo!" and I said, "Well, I don't want to touch it, either." and he just stood there. I told him again to get busy, clean yourself up, I said. And again I stepped out and spied on him. He finally started to take his pants off, then his messy underwear. He then started to try to clean himself off, and began to cry. So I came in and asked him why he was crying? He said, "Because...I don't want to do this..." waaa waaa waaaa. So I sternly said to him, "Listen, you are almost 4 years old. Enough is enough. You know how to use the potty. You are choosing to not use the potty. If you choose to mess in your pants, it's YOUR mess. Not mine. And YOU will clean it. Not me." So I sat there on the side of the tub and coached him as he cleaned himself off, and that was that. Sounds awful, I know. But it worked. He used the potty after that, no problem.

My sister was fed up with her son, too, when at almost 4 years old he would still poop in his pants on an almost daily basis. It turns out she would give him a bath after everytime he did it. I told her that he enjoyed the warm bath with toys and bubbles and all that, so that was no real consequence to him. She agreed. So she told him that from then on if chose to poop in his pants, that he would get cleaned off out in the backyard with the hose, not a warm bath. And so after one session with the cold hose water, he was cured of going poop in his pants. Imgaine that!

Kids. You just gotta love 'em, right?
